Shrinking the world... on basehit at a time.

“Don't forget to swing hard, in case you hit the ball.”

          ~Woodie Held

For those of you who are not baseball fans, last night was arguably the greatest and most dramatic night in the history of regular season baseball.  And I’m honestly not exaggerating.  More unbelievable breathtaking dramatic moments occurred between about 10pm and 12:15am than in any other final day of the regular season in 140+ years of Major League Baseball.

And through it all, my phone must have buzzed with 40 to 50 text messages; friends, family, people I hadn’t spoken to in six months in some cases – all flooding in with “are you watching this!” “this is amazing!” “how ‘bout your Rays!?!” and other Twitter-esque sounds nuggets.

The thought that dawned on me?  It’s amazing how much smaller technology has made Planet Earth.  Through text and cell phones and cable television I was able to share an experience with dozens of people nearly as intimately as if we were sitting on the same couch.

That’s exactly what we do for our students as well.  We shrink the vast scary world of “online education” and reduce it to a more personal, shared experience. Without ever meeting face-to-face we become an integral part of each other’s lives.  Through phone outreach, emails, texts and any other means of communication, we can give our students the feeling that we are right next to them on the couch, holding their hand and guiding them to where they want to go…

Keep in mind the amazing gift you are for our students as you reach out to them today, and just how lucky they are to have someone like you reaching on their team - helping them hold the bat in their hands, and coaching them all the way to the one of the biggest win of their lives… a successful future.

 Make today a homerun!
